Birthing Roots was co-founded by Susan van Daal, a seasoned Ayurvedic practitioner and full-spectrum doula originally from the Netherlands, bringing her expertise to Los Angeles for over six years. During her time as the Director of the Holistic Doula Training at the Aura Institute, Susan realized her mission reaches beyond holistic care - bringing ritual and consciousness to US birth culture.
Drawing from the wisdom of ancient traditions and the Dutch low-intervention maternal care model, Susan believes in a more empowering birth experience—one where every woman has access to compassionate support and quality education.
Through Birthing Roots, she is planting the seeds for a new, more conscious approach to birth.
Adam Carney, the co-founder of Birthing Roots, is an entrepreneur with the soul of a healer. His life’s calling is to empower healers to share their gifts on a grand scale. Over his career, Adam has guided thousands of healers in advancing their work and reaching more people.
In 2018, he founded the renowned yoga school East+West, which quickly grew to become one of the largest yoga training schools globally—a journey that equipped him with invaluable insights into building thriving wellness businesses.
Adam’s latest venture, Wisdom, is a pioneering subscription-based healthcare platform grounded in the belief that chronic illnesses can be reversed. Driven by a passion for transforming the birth landscape, Adam brings his entrepreneurial expertise to support doulas and birth workers. His vision is to create a ripple of change in the U.S. birth culture, where compassionate, empowered care can make a lasting impact.
